4. Kerry Football
Hero Mick O'Connell - Hall of Fame Recipient 2005
Perched in the lea of Douglas
head and facing into Dingle bay lies the
now uninhabited island of Beginish. This is Mick o Connell's
ancestral
home. His father Jeremiah lived there up until the early
1930's when he moved his family to nearby Valentia where
he bought a small farm and

And so Saturday 15th May 2004, in Deans Grange Cemerty
in Dublin it came to pass that our great Olympic-GAA
hero of the twenties and thirties Eamon Fitzgerald was
duly honoured. It may have been a long time coming,
but better late than never.

the Pimpernel of the Vatican, who saved the lives of
over 4,000 British and American soldiers and Jews from
torture and death at the hands of the Gestapo in German-occupied
Rome during World War II.

10. Death of the
Iorn Man:
On June 1st last, the death took place of Peter Crotty,
one of Ireland’s outstanding welterweight amateur
boxers of the late 1940s and early 1950s. During those
far-off days, some of the toughest amateur boxers at
various weights reigned supreme and were ever ready
to take on all comers. Crotty was one of these greats.
