" I was born in Ballyhar in the parish fo Firies 6
miles from Killarney, the eldest of six girls.
My entire working life has been spent in the tourism industry
in Killarney where I presently hold the position as Front Office
Manager at the Torc Great southern hotel.
Tourism is the lifeblood of Killarney's economy and it's major
employer, and I am a firm believer that our standards remain high,
we give value for money, and that we are in a position to benefit
when their is an upturn in the world wide economy.
Coming from a political household, it was inevitable that I would
become involved. Having served my apprenticeship over a period
of years in various officerships I was delighted to take up the
invitation of my party, Fine Gael, to contest the 1999 elections
to Killarney Town Council.
It was a great honour for me to be the first female member of
my party to be elected to the council. I am presently the Mayor
Of Killarney, and the first female to hold that position. To be
first citizen of one's town is a very onerous and demanding position,
it's an honour and a privilege for one to be elected Mayor. I
would like to thank my fellow councellors for electing me. My
term of office extends to June 2003.
I'm also a member of the National Women's Council of Ireland,
and Killarney's Town council representative on the South Kerry
Development Partnership Board 1999-2004.
The environment is something that I have a passionate interest
in. Killarney and it's environs are blessed with such natural
beauty, much renowned in song and story, and it is vitally important
that all of its citizens work tirelessly to keep it so.
It is my fervent wish that our town would be litter-free. We have
come a long way, and all of us should be vigilant that we keep
it that way.
I'm an ordinary citizen of our county, a person who has a genuine
care for Kerry and one who has made - and will continue to make
- a positive contribution to the future and prosperous development
of the Killarney area. "
