Colombian
Missionaries
Something Different for Terrace
Talk Ireland
Two Colombian missionaries priests both former Kerry football
captains recalling their days in Kerry and their work among the
poor in the mission fields of South America. Surly one of the
most fascinating Terrace Talks of all. Unique and inspiring as
Fr. Michael Howe, Killarney and Fr. Tommy Hanlon of Tarbert Co.
Kerry open their hearts to Weeshie.
Fr. Michael Howe and Fr. Tommy Hanlon were both superb footballers
with their clubs in Ireland. Michael comes from the Kerry lakeside
town of Killarney and played football with the local Killarney
Legion club, St. Brendan's College and Killarney. The other Killarney
GAA club is Dr. Crokes.
Fr. Tommy comes from the little North Kerry town of Tarbert and
also began his school career at the local school. The calling
of their vocation brought both of these exemplary men to the farthest
corners of the world as they went forth to spread the word of
God. Their story is so inspiring that Weeshie says during the
interview there were moments when tears filled his eyes. "We
are so far removed from their lives that sport, winning and losing
is so irrelevant".
