Galwey
Former Irish Rugby Captain and Kerry
Footballer
Mick Galwey, the now legendary Irish rugby captain comes from Currow
Co. Kerry. His displays with Ireland and the lions of Munster are
now part of Irish foclore. He also won an all Ireland senior football
medal with Kerry. This special Terrace Talk program was recorded
on August 8th 2000 Captivating listening as Mick discuses his life
with Weeshie.
The
village of Currow lies close to the town of Castleisland, Co. Kerry
and amazingly, out of this small village came three of Ireland's
best rugby players - Moss Keane, Mick Doyle, and Mick Galway. And
all three became British & Irish Lions.
Mick Doyle went on to coach Ireland to Triple Crown success, and
his brother Tom was also an international. So the background for
the great Mick Galway was well and truly laid, an amazing feat to
see such world-renowned sportsmen coming from this small and tightly-knit
community.
Mick Galwey talks candidly in this hour-long Terrace Talk Special
about how he won an All-Ireland Senior football medal with Kerry,
the tradition that helped him become such a world-renowned player,
the captain of Ireland and Munster, his family and his dreams for
the future.
