Mick Byrne
Republic of Ireland's Soccer Team's
Physiotherapist
Mick Byrne has been the physiotherapist to the Irish Soccer team
for many years, and in this exclusive Terrace Talk he recalls
his days with Jack Charlton, Johnny Giles, and the present Irish
manager. Before Mick left with his team for the World Cup finals
in Japan, he gave his one and only interview about his sporting
life and times to Weeshie who visited him at his home in Dublin.
Another absolutely fascinating hour.
Mick Byrne has the remarkable record of serving under many different
Irish soccer managers; Alan Kelly, Johnny Giles, Jack Charlton
and the present boss Mick MCCarthy.
In this interview he brings listeners from his young days in the
inner city of Dublin to countries all over the world. He recounts
his trip to the World Cup in Italy with the Irish team and his
meeting with Pope John Paul the Second.
Mick recalls Packie Bonner's World Cup save, David O'Leary's winning
penalty, shedding tears as Ireland beat England, the World Cup
in America, and the legendary players he treated such as Frank
Staplelton, Paul McGrath, Roy Keane and John Aldridge. Mick Byrne
one of the nicest people you could meet, a man who devoted his
life to Irish Soccer and a true gentleman.
